The challenge
Every order handled by hand in chat
Before the online bookstore, most sales ran through WhatsApp and direct messages, about 100–150 customer enquiries a month.
Manual order handling
For each order, staff answered questions, confirmed availability, sent payment instructions and coordinated delivery by hand.
No self-service buying
Customers couldn't complete the buying process on their own, at any hour.
Busy periods slowed replies
At busy times, responses could be delayed.
Al-Halal needed an online channel that made the catalogue accessible, simplified ordering and payment, and cut repetitive admin.
The solution
An online bookstore with payments, notifications and AI support
Online catalogue and ordering
Customers browse books and place orders through the online store.
Multiple payment options
The storefront supports the configured card, bank transfer, USSD and pay-on-delivery options.
Automated notifications
Order emails and payment confirmations reduce the need for staff to communicate each transaction by hand.
AI-assisted discovery and support
An assistant answers common questions and helps customers find relevant books.
Security and monitoring
Security protections and monitoring support the store's day-to-day operation.
Tested backups
Tested backups support the business's recovery planning.
The implementation went through an independent AWS Well-Architected review, which found no high-risk issues within the scope of that review.

A digital sales channel that customers use
- 49 online orders completed end to end without staff assistance (24 August–28 October 2026).

Business Impact
Beyond messaging-based sales
Al-Halal Books now has a sales channel where customers discover publications and complete orders without relying on staff-led WhatsApp conversations. Online ordering and automated notifications also let the business serve customers outside working hours.
Moving from informal messaging-based sales to a structured online store can help a traditional retailer widen access to its products and reduce manual order handling.
